Think back a bit… what were you doing when you were 13? Gary said he was desperately fighting a loosing battle with ache (weren’t we all?) I was freaking out about going into high school.

Alena is 13 and she’s probably worried about her ache, but she’s not worried about going into high school… that’s because she graduated last year… when she was 12! Now she’s a Junior in college. And as of Monday, she’s the youngest person to get accepted into medical school.

It’s crazy enough that she got in at 13 years old, but the odds were totally stacked against her. She said “Statistics would have said I never would have made it. A little black girl adopted from Fontana California.”

She gave all credit to her mom saying, “I couldn’t have done it without you. You gave me every opportunity possible to be successful.”

I appreciate that she said “You gave me every opportunity”… Then it was up to Alena to take that opportunity and make something out of it… and she totally did!
